From The Principal
This week marks the halfway mark of term 3, it is hard to believe that we are already here! Once again it has been an action-packed term with many great things happening in our school.
Curriculum matters:
Book week:
Yesterday the amazing book week parade took place with both students and staff sharing their love of books and all things literacy and reading! What a great way to celebrate our love of literature and the importance of reading in the lives of our students and our entire community. Thanks go to parents for your efforts in ensuring your child/ren were able to bring to life their favourite books in the vast array of characters and costumes that were on display. We would like to also encourage families to get along and support our book fair which is on this week in the library. Please see this newsletter for more details.
Three Way Conversations:
Our three way conversations between parents/carers, teachers and students are coming up in Weeks 7 and 8. This is an opportunity for students to share their learning and for discussions to be had regarding the recent mid-year reports sent home. Bookings can be made via Schoolzine.
National Tree Day:
Our school supports this great initiative every year and this year is no different. Students will be planting a range of native plants and trees that have been donated to the school to enable us to celebrate and nurture our environment.
Young Archies submissions
Once again students have submitted amazing portrait exhibits to the young Archies competition. Congratulations to all those young artists who created their own masterpieces and displayed amazing artistic talent.
Sporting news:
Congratulations to all those students who tried out and/or participated in the Winter Sports competition. Soon we’ll be conducting the Years 3-6 Swimming Carnival and we would encourage all students to have a go and participate in this great event.
Upcoming Events:
The remainder of the term will be busy with more learning opportunities for our students including excursions, music workshops, Terrapin puppets visit, swimming and water safety program for our year 3-6 students. We also appreciate the efforts of our School Association in organising the Father’s Day or Special Person’s breakfast next week as well as a tea towel fundraiser.
We are excited to advise that in the absence of canteen this year, we will be introducing Wednesday Zooper Dooper Day for the remainder of the year, as well as a Special Lunch Day on the last day of term. Students will be able to pre purchase lunch on the Qkr! app, wear their favourite sporting team’s colours clothing and support childhood cancer with a gold coin donation. More details to come.

Prep Art From Trash
In July Prep WC and Prep OQ participated in the Art from Trash exhibition held at Salamanca Arts Centre.
We read Bowerbird Blue by Aura Parker and students were fascinated by the materials that the Bowerbird collected. Through our learning about place, country and going on an excursion to explore sea country, students started to have a new appreciation of discarded materials and saw these as collectable items that told a story. Students were encouraged to collect discarded materials from home that interest them and share the story behind their collection.
It is now displayed in the office foyer if you would like to take a closer look.
Levy Payment Reminder
As more than half the school year has passed, this is a reminder that school levy payments that were invoiced at the start of the year are now overdue. Payments can be made in full or by paying regular instalments at the school office in person via EFTPOS or cash, over the phone or via BPAY.
When paying your account online use the code that relates to each child rather than using only one account number for all account payments. Thank you.
STAS (Student Assistance Scheme) closes to new applications in the first week of September. New applications for 2024 will not be accepted after this time and further assessments will not be made for the school year.

Term 3 - Three Way Conversations
Kinder - Year 6 families are invited to attend three way conversations during week 7 and 8 of Term 3 on either Wednesday 4, Thursday 5, Monday 9 or Tuesday 10 September 2024.
This is an opportunity for parents/carers to meet with classroom and/or specialist teachers to discuss their child's learning. Students are welcome to attend.
Bookings are allocated every 15 minutes, however the meetings will be approximately 10 minutes to allow transition time from one class to another, and for teachers to prepare for their next meeting.
In classrooms that have 2 teachers, please book one appointment time with either teacher. Teachers will be scheduled on their usual teaching day. For staff who teach in multiple classes, please select the correct day that corresponds to your child's class.
Bookings can be made via Schoolzine by clicking this link or via the Schoozine app (button on home screen). Bookings are now open and will close at 1pm on Tuesday 3 September.
Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
Year 3 – 6 students in our school are taking part in the annual Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The Survey will take place from Monday 26 August – Friday 30 August 2024.
The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy.
A letter with more information was sent home on 5 August to all Year 3-6 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey.
Launching Into Learning
Please note the new time on Mondays - the LIL session will operate from 9:30am - 10:15am.

Year 6 Band Tour
Report by April (Year 6)
Have you ever wondered what happens when the grade 5's in band become grade 6's? Well, what do you know? I'm going to tell you. The answer is practicing more music but it leads up to touring at two schools and having lunch at Cornelian Bay. Guess what? That's what happened on 9 August 2024. Everyone loved it and some even did a demo or presented the song playing next. Here are some photos of all the people at LNPS that played at the band tour.

Our children have been busy crafting portraits of themselves to appear on our 2025 LNPS tea towels. The tea towels will be printed and distributed just in time for Christmas and order forms will be sent home to families at a later date.
Digital Skills for Families
Support your child’s online learning at home
Digital skills are critical to every child’s success, but supporting online learning can be overwhelming.
The Digital skills for families team are delivering a program to help Tasmanian families support online learning at home. Spending time online at home gives children an opportunity to practice what they are learning at school. Positive home environments help children develop the skills and independence they need to succeed in a digital future.
Learn about communicating online with schools, digital education at school and how to support online learning at home.
Digital skills for families is offering free information sessions, workshops and one-to-one help in libraries, schools and community locations statewide.
Email the team at digitalskillsforfamilies@libraries.tas.gov.au to find out more and book a free session.
