Community News
From The Acting Principal
Dear Families,
Celebrating the LNPS Term 2 Learning Community
Our young learners at Lindisfarne North Primary School are truly amazing!
As I reflect on what our students have been involved in this term, from Kinder to our Year 6 school leaders, I realise how active they are, not only within the walls of our school but also as citizens stepping out to contribute to the wider community. We have seen students participate in Jump Rope for Heart, Cross Country events, excursions to the Marine Discovery Centre and Taroona Beach, Winter Sports and Interschool Debating.
It is also encouraging to reflect upon the strong commitment students and staff have made within our Positive Behaviour and Interventions Support (PBIS) focus. All students have had the opportunity to think deeply about planning for successful break times. Planning involves making choices about where students may choose to play, who they may play with and what games are suitable. As I walk around the playground during break times, I am encouraged by responsible play, sharing of the swings, gaga pit and bikes across all age groups.
This term all students have been involved in writing an Acknowledgement of Country. An Acknowledgement of Country is an opportunity for our school community to demonstrate respect for Traditional Owners and the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country. Last week, Mrs K sent a Schoolzine notice to all families seeking community members to join our Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group. If this is an area you would like to participate in, please let our Office Staff know. New members are always welcome. Below, I highlight our 1-2W writers, celebrating their Acknowledgment of Country.
Reading Information Session
Earlier this term the Prep team hosted their inaugural Family Reading Session. This experience was an opportunity for Prep teachers to share their passion for reading with some of our Prep and Kinder families. The underlying message was around our aim to grow a love of literacy, alongside the key skills required to be a successful reader. The session highlighted the importance of both oral language and the provision of a range of rich texts, for our earliest readers. Many thanks to Margaret, Sabine, Ange, Ellen and Jess who coordinated the session. Please make sure to connect with your child’s teacher if you would like to be involved with our reading program at school.
Interschool Cross Country
Mrs Broadbent and 45 Year 3 – 6 students travelled to Bayview Secondary College on 4 June to participate in the Division A Interschool Cross Country. Although LNPS didn’t win the event, all students demonstrated our school values of respect, responsibility and kindness. They showed incredible grit and determination throughout the day and we are grateful to their commitment to our school.
Pippa M, Jasmine M, Lily M and Max M all went on to participate in the Champions Carnival held at Symmons Plains. Well done Team LNPS!
Dress to Express and the School Disco
A few weeks ago, I was approached by Theo from our Student Parliament, who had a fundraising idea. Theo presented his idea, ‘Dress to Express’ in a convincing letter:
Dear Mrs Thorp,
We are writing this letter to you because we have an idea for a very fun fundraiser event.
The event is called “Dress to Express” and it is essentially a combination of events such as Crazy Hair Day, Free Dress Day, and other events involving freedom in couture. You could dress up in a costume, change your hair, etc.
The whole theme of Dress to Express is to embrace the students’ inner identities and uniqueness, which may help some kids feel like they belong more. There would be activities such as drawing a self-portrait of your identity, and discussing about what you want to be when you grow up.
The students bring a gold coin donation, and the funds will go to a renovation of the top playground, which was the most requested item in the survey.
I, on behalf of the Parliament, hope that this idea can come to fruition, as it would be a fun and creative event for the students of LNPS.
With great reverence,
Theodore
As a result, this Friday, the Student Parliament will join forces with the School Association to raise funds for some additional playground equipment. Students are invited to come to school in free dress and also participate in a disco organised by the LNPSA. Thank you in advance to the LNPSA for coordinating the disco. Year 3 – 6 will dance between 12:00 – 12.50pm and Prep - Year 2 will dance between 1:45 – 2:30pm. I do hope that all students and teachers who participate will have a great time and learn some new dance moves!
I have immensely enjoyed my time as Acting Principal for LNPS this term and would like to thank the wonderful staff, students and families for their support across the last eight weeks. Ms Wilson will be back in the principal role next term, and I trust she’ll be energised after her well-deserved Long Service Leave.
Best wishes for a safe, restful and enjoyable holiday break.
Frances Thorp

Dress to Express Disco - Friday 5 July
On Friday 5 July the LNPS Student Parliament, together with our School Association, are organising a ‘Dress to Express Disco’ fundraiser. The goal is to raise money for a top playground upgrade.
The idea of ‘Dress to Express’ is to embrace students’ inner identities and uniqueness and to make sure that they feel like they belong.
They can wear whatever they feel happy and comfortable in; anything in which they would like to express themselves.
Some ideas might be: Free Dress, Crazy Hair, Your Hero, What You Want To Be When You Grow Up, Favourite Music Artist or Movie Star, Crazy Socks, Pyjamas etc.
Our School Association will assist with the disco and provide popcorn and icy poles on the day so make sure you bring a gold coin to help raise money for a new playground.
The School Parliament leaders have come up with some very fun games during the disco and it will be fun end to a busy term.

Launching Into Learning
Jump Rope for Heart
Well done to all of our students who participated in our Jump Rope for Heart morning last week, where there were multiple skipping stations set up across the school.
All students had a great time, pushed themselves and everyone has progressed with their skipping skills over the last few weeks!
Students wore red in support of the Heart Foundation and fundraised $238.35.
Reporting Absences
If your child is going to be absent due to illness, appointment, travel, arriving later in the day etc please let us know prior to 9am. You can do this by using the Schoolzine app or by phoning the school office.
Please ensure your child uses the Kiosk located in the Admin office if they have arrived after 8:55am to ensure that they are accounted for in daily attendance.
If you receive an Edsmart message due to an unexplained absence, please respond as soon as possible so that we can update your child's attendance information.
Traffic Movement in the School Grounds
We have received several complaints from school community members in relation to the way vehicles have been entering and leaving the school grounds. Please adhere to the signs erected around the school and take care at all times. Parents should not be parking in the staff car park or the disability parks (unless they have a disability permit) to pick up and drop off children. Please use the visitor car park.
It has also been requested by Tasmanian Archives that vehicles do not go through their car park and park at the rear of the school. Thank you for your co-operation.
Adhering to Signs Displayed on School Gates
The school has recently installed signage on all school gates. For student safety, please ensure you close school gates as you enter/exit through them.

Premier's Reading Challenge
Reading helps children to understand the world they live in. It sparks curiosity, nurtures imagination, and is fun to do. Reading is integral to developing vital literacy skills and fostering independence and self-assurance.
The Challenge is most successful when parents show interest and support their children. Help your child with their reading challenge and you will be making a positive difference to their future.
Completed reading logs can be submitted to classroom teachers or the school office.
Change of Clothing
We have had several instances recently where students have slipped over in wet muddy areas during outdoor play. If your child has borrowed spare clothing, could you please launder and return these items to school as soon as practicable.
We suggest supplying a spare change of clothing in your child's school bag.
We also welcome donations of second-hand leggings and track pants in all sizes please.
NED's Mindset Mission - 14 August
NED’s Mindset Mission is coming to LNPS! Never give up! Encourage others! Do your best!
Ned’s mindset mission is a positive behaviour presentation that will be visiting LNPS on Wednesday 14 August. A world-class performer will take our students on a 45 minute journey filled with storytelling, illusions, yoyo tricks and humour. NED’s message and memorable friends inspire students, promote academic performance, and support our school and the DECYP values. NED will be a positive role model both at school and at home.
A yoyo is both a mindset tool and a tangible reminder of NED’s message. While learning to use a yoyo, children can make mistakes, try again, and improve. Our school received this performance at no cost because another school paid it forward to us. We want to help pay it forward too, and you can help by purchasing a NED messaged yoyo for your child. Yoyos will be for sale from the day of the NED performance and will remain available for purchase for the following week. Yoyos cost between $15 -$25 and there is no obligation for purchases to be made. Further details regarding sales will be provided closer to the date.

School Association
We’re looking forward to helping the Student Parliament Leaders coordinate Friday's disco. If you have capacity to lend a hand decorating the gym on Friday morning, or facilitating the fun during the disco, please get in contact by commenting on one of our Facebook posts (School Association - Lindisfarne North Primary School).
A current WWVP card and completion of safeguarding training is required to be able to volunteer. The more the merrier.
On another note, if you are not a member of LNPS staff and you do not hold a disability parking permit, please do not park in the staff/disability section of the car park. Let’s work together to help keep our children safe.

School Attendance
Share your thoughts on school attendance
Help us better understand any barriers that may be in the way, and what supports are needed to help with getting to school. The Department for Education, Children and Young People is doing statewide consultation on school attendance, closing tomorrow on 4 July. 3P Advisory is independently running the consultation. Your answers are confidential, and you won’t be identified.
We want to hear from you. You can take part in an online survey, share or vote for suggestions, or join an online drop-in session via the 3P website. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
You can also share your thoughts about what you like or don’t like about our Every school day matters campaign.
As a parent or carer, please have your say. Please encourage your child/ren, too.
2024 Winter Wellness Campaign
The cooler months bring colds, flu, COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses.
Flu can be serious for young children. Children are more likely to catch and spread the flu, and young children may become very sick.
The Department of Health has launched its 2024 Winter Wellness campaign and is encouraging school communities to take of their health by preparing, planning and protecting themselves.
The attached information sheet has more details. You can also visit www.health.tas.gov.au/campaigns/winter-wellness or call the Public Health Hotline for advice on 1800 671 738.
