From the Acting Principal
Dear LNPS Families,
Term 2 is in full swing now with many exciting learning experiences happening across the school!
Cross Country
LNPS’ cross-country carnival was a wonderful event for the whole school with students from Kinder to Year 6 participating with real fervour, even though distance running isn’t everybody’s strength. Special thanks to Mrs Kylie Broadbent for her effort In organising the carnival and to the LNPSA members who distributed thirst-quenching icy-poles to all students at the finish line. Thank you as well to our families who came to spectate. I know students are excited and spurred on to excel when encouraged by family support.
Three-Way Conversations and Reports
Across Weeks 4-5, many families met with teachers to discuss the progress of their student’s learning. It was wonderful to hear many positive comments from families and teachers about how students are demonstrating our school values of respect, responsibility and kindness, as well as academic achievement.
Students will receive Progress Reports at the end of term. These reports will reflect achievement against the Kinder Developmental Check, Learning Plan goals or the Australian Curriculum. I am looking forward to seeing how reports reflect the teacher feedback given during the three-way conversations to move forward.
Congratulations to our Year 5-6 Debating Teams
Our debating students completed their roster on Monday afternoon with the much-awaited LNPS round to host the debate. The topic “That all primary schools should provide free lunches for students every day” stimulated interesting debate, with our students rising to the challenge of preparing convincing arguments.
A huge thankyou to Mrs Kostiuk, Miss Williams and the 5-6 teachers who worked with our team to prepare their argument, and to those teachers and families who supported the children and their effort. Congratulations to all students who participated and it was fabulous to have a winning result.
National Reconciliation Week
The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must —continue. Our vision for reconciliation at Lindisfarne North Primary is for all students to be part of a thriving community that is inclusive, acknowledges, understands and empathises with Tasmanian Aboriginal people, their histories and cultures, as part of a whole school movement towards reconciliation. To celebrate NRW we started the week with a whole school assembly led by our student leaders, Max and April, who delivered a heartfelt Acknowledgement of Country. Last week we were extremely lucky to have Trish from NITA visit all classes, sharing her knowledge of story-telling on Country.
Warm regards
Frances Thorp

School Attendance
Share your thoughts on school attendance
Help us better understand any barriers that may be in the way, and what supports are needed to help with getting to school. The Department for Education, Children and Young People is doing statewide consultation on school attendance. 3P Advisory is independently running the consultation. Your answers are confidential, and you won’t be identified.
We want to hear from you. You can take part in an online survey, share or vote for suggestions, or join an online drop-in session via the 3P website. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
You can also share your thoughts about what you like or don’t like about our Every school day matters campaign.
As a parent or carer, please have your say. Please encourage your child/ren, too.
Reporting Absences
Earlier this year DECYP introduced a new system EdSmart which automatically generates text messages/emails to the enrolling parent when your child is recorded with an unexplained absence. There have been some intermittent technical problems with the new system, with some parents receiving messages even when they have notified us of absences or have signed into the Kiosk as a late arrival. The Admin team are reporting these instances to DECYP and we thank you for your patience while these issues are investigated and rectified.
Importantly, to assist us, if your child is going to be absent due to illness, appointment, travel, arriving later in the day etc please let us know prior to 9am. You can do this by using the Schoolzine app or by phoning the school office.
Please ensure your child uses the Kiosk located in the Admin office if they have arrived after 8:55am to ensure that they are accounted for in daily attendance.
Volunteering at LNPS
If you volunteer at this school, you are required to register for “Registration to Work with Vulnerable People”. To apply complete the online application form at Registration to work with vulnerable people (cbos.tas.gov.au). If you already have a RWVP card, please make sure you have updated your registration to include all organisations, including Lindisfarne North Primary. Your card will be checked every time when you sign in via the Kiosk at the office.
All staff, volunteers and external service providers are required to complete Safeguarding training. Please email your certificate to lindisfarne.north.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au
Online Training can be found here. There is also a button on the LNPS Schoolzine app providing you with the direct link.
ANZAC Day
We are very proud of Max and April who represented LNPS with Ms Beattie at the Lindisfarne ANZAC Day service during the school holidays, laying a wreath as a sign of respect, courage and gratitude to those who served in war and fought for our freedom.
Student Parliament
In Week 1 of this term, our six year 6 Ministers took part in the Primary Leaders Conference at Huonville Primary School. They engaged in activities to learn, think and reflect about leadership in today’s context. They practised some focussed leadership skills in workshop stations, working together with a group of 80 leaders from other Southern Primary Schools. Our school leaders did us proud, showing confidence by speaking in front of the whole group, and showing great teamwork skills, including courage, humility, and accountability.
In Week 2 the whole Student Parliament visited Parliament House in Hobart. This excursion was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the history and role of our Parliament. We started our tour in the basement, one of the oldest parts of the building, in which the Parliamentary Museum is located. Next, we went to the public gallery overlooking the House of Assembly. Our hosts and tour guides explained the work of Parliament and we got the opportunity for a Q and A with Mr Luke Edmunds, one of our politicians.
After that, we visited the long room, where we participated in a role play. During the role play we pretended to be a Member of Parliament. The role play was a fun way to learn how laws are debated and voted on in the House of Assembly. It was great to experience what it would be like to pass a Bill in Parliament. During the debate, we were joined by another politician, Ms Jacquie Petrusma, who also took the time to answer all of our questions. We had such a fantastic morning. This excursion really helped us understand the work of our Parliament.
If you are interested, you can see Parliament at work on sitting days by viewing the livestream online at www.parliament.tas.gov.au or you visit Parliament House by booking a tour. Tours are conducted by House of Assembly Parliamentary Assistants and focus on the history of Parliament House and the role of the Parliament. The tour includes the Parliamentary Museum and both chambers of Parliament. All tours are free of charge and run for approximately one hour.

Performing Arts News
Greetings from Mr Rennie (Drama Teacher - Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday).
It has been an absolute dream to join the team at LNPS in 2024. The staff, students and families are simply wonderful.
Term 1 for me was largely getting to know the students and learning an entire school of names! I think I’m almost there! For years 3-6 we spent our time playing lots of drama games, experimenting with improvisation and also some trying out scripted drama. For years Prep-2 we also experimented with drama games as well as dabbling in singing and dancing.
In Term 2 things are really starting to hum along. The year 3-6 students are working in small groups to rehearse a short scripted scene. Some groups have adapted the scripts and some are even writing their own original dramas. We are beginning to gather some props and costumes for the drama theatre. Students will perform their drama at the end of term as part of their assessment. But mostly just for fun!
If you have any old clothes, costumes or props that you think could be useful, please feel free to drop them off at school! I’ll take anything!
Prep - Year 2 are working week to week on story based drama. We read a new picture story book each week and talk about the themes, and how we might create drama from those themes. Students are then given some time to brainstorm ideas, and are given an opportunity to perform at the end of the lesson.
I’m having a terrific time and I think the students are too!
Sincerely,
Mr Mick Rennie.

Thank you to those families that have paid their levy accounts in full or who are making instalment payments. Please note that when paying your child/ren’s account that each student has an individual code that only applies to their account.
When paying your account online use the code that relates to each child rather than using only one account number for all account payments. Thank you.
