From the Principal
What a busy term we’re having! We started the term with welcoming all families to our open classrooms afternoon and picnic in our magnificent school grounds. Thanks to all families who attended and made the afternoon such a success. We used the opportunity to encourage parents and others to volunteer for the numerous programs we have at school. These include, reading volunteers, classroom parent support, Positive Behaviour Intervention and Support parent representatives and Reconciliation Action Plan representatives. If you can spare an hour or two, please let us know because we could always use your support to run these important initiatives. It is also important to note that we (DECYP) now have additional safeguarding measures in place and information about the requirements can be accessed here. It is imperative that if you are volunteering in our school that this information is available and that we have it on file at school.
Our grade 6 students started the term with a fantastic camp which enabled them to challenge themselves while getting to know their fellow class members in a different setting other than school. The camp was only made possible due to the significant efforts of our Admin team, Mrs Thorp, Mrs Kostiuck, Gabby, Mrs Rathbone, Miss Hansen, Mr Coombe, Mrs Breganti and Miss Dwyer. Thanks to all those who made this important experience possible for our students, we really appreciate it. It was great to also see so many people attend our whole school assembly last week. Thanks to teachers for all that you do in supporting our young people to prepare for this and enabling them to showcase their work in such a supportive environment.
It was great to see students involved in the Clean Up Australia campaign last week and caring for our environment. Recently Student Parliament elections were conducted, and I had the opportunity to listen to the speeches of all the nominees. It was great to hear how articulate our students were, the pledges they made and how diligently they prepared for this. Congratulations to all successful parliamentarians, I look forward to working with you to ensure we maintain LNPS as a great place, where student voice is always heard.
On another note, we are gearing up for PAT and NAPLAN testing in the coming weeks. Please discuss with your child’s teacher if you have any concerns or issues regarding these tests. Students are expected to participate, and we expect they will do well.
Finally, we are excited to have the years 3 to 6 athletics carnival on Thursday 7 March. We look forward to having many spectators here to cheer students on.

House Captains
Congratulations to the following Year 6 students who have been selected as House Captains and Vice Captains this year.
Each student had to write a speech and present it in front of our Year 3-6 house groups last Thursday. Each house voted for students they thought would represent their house the best.
Our house captains need to be kind, thoughtful, inclusive, respectful, responsible, helpful to staff and students, always participate in our school events, aspire to be the best, encourage others to be their best, resilient and with a have a go attitude.
Well done to all students who nominated to be a house captain!

School Parliament News
Congratulations to all grade 4, 5 and 6 students who stood up and delivered a speech in front of their peers to become part of our new School Parliament.
It takes a lot of courage to do this, and we are so proud of you all!
At Lindisfarne North Primary School, we believe that student voice matters and that it is important to give the students agency in decision-making processes in their school.
The purpose of our School Parliament is to give our students an active say in what happens around the school. It provides an opportunity for them to:
- be involved in decision making
- develop leadership and communication skills
- improve the school community by addressing student issues and concerns.
The School Parliament will meet weekly to work together on different areas of responsibility. The students develop proposals for the school, which they will research, debate and vote on and communicate with school community.
We are very excited to announce and introduce to you the new members of our 2024 School Parliament:
Ministers:
Max (Prime Minister) | April (Leader of Opposition) |

Callie | Eliza |
SRC:

NAPLAN
NAPLAN will be conducted for Year 3 and Year 5 students only. This year’s NAPLAN test window is Wednesday 13 March – Monday 25 March.
Our teaching staff will be spending time with students with a focus on:
- Talking to them about trying their best without worrying;
- Explaining how multiple choice items work and encourage students to always have a go;
- Reviewing the structure of narratives and persuasive texts;
- Explaining that their writing is marked against rubrics for vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, awareness of audience and purpose, etc so they can score well even if their less preferred genre is included this year;
- Showing students that they need to read the passages before answering the questions in the reading test and explain that they will need to use the comprehension strategies of inferring, predicting, summarising, etc
- Looking at some sample spelling test items and note that students will be required to use various spelling strategies to be successful.
Further information for parents and carers can be found on the NAPLAN website - see the link below
or click here for the information brochure.

Special Data Collection form: Please make any necessary alterations with the enrolling parent to sign.
ICT Computer Use Agreements: please read through this form with your child. Both the student and parent to sign. We understand that students in our early years will need parental assistance, but we ask that you sign both sections acknowleding that they understand the agreement.
Minor Excursions form: in previous years we have sent out a single page at the start of the year covering your permissions for all excursions. This year, it is included in the permissions section of the student validation form. We will still inform you prior to excursions of the itinerary details, but you will not have to complete a separate permission slip each time.
Major Excursion & Aquatic forms: please read, complete, sign and return. Again we will inform you prior to each event, the itinerary details.
Seesaw permission forms: all students in all classes will be using Seesaw this year for sharing of information. Please sign and return, so that a QR code can be provided.

Clean Up Australia Day
Thank you to all students and staff who volunteered last Friday to clean up the grounds in and around our school.
Clean Up Australia Day is a great way to inspire students to learn about the impact of rubbish in their local environment and to play an active role in their community. And it is way more fun if we work all together 😊 Together we picked up a lot of rubbish and it all makes a difference!
Did you know that ‘Clean Up Australia Day’ was started over three decades ago, by an "average Australian", who had a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard? It has now become the nation's largest community-based environmental event! More than 20 million Aussies have participated in ‘Clean Up Australia Day’ activities and along the way, Clean Up Australia has evolved to provide practical solutions to help all Australians live more sustainably every day of the year.
We encourage our community to take a small step every day (or every week or every month!) because every little bit helps.
LNPS Association
LNPS School Association are planning some exciting events this year. Our efforts in 2023 benefitted our children in various ways, including the support we provided for the early years water safety program.
Our Democracy Sausage Sizzle will take place on Saturday 23 March between 8am and 3pm. We will be selling sausages and baked goods. If you would like to donate some baked goods (cakes, muffins, slices etc), please leave them at the school office on Friday 22 March. All products must be clearly labelled with the ingredients. Please do not provide any items that require refrigeration. We will also have a fabulous coffee van! If you can assist with the BBQ, please comment on the School Association's Facebook post.
Easter raffle tickets will soon be sent home with your child. Please write your name and number on the tickets and return them, along with funds raised to the school office by Wednesday 27 March. Prizes will be displayed in the foyer and winners announced on Thursday 28 March. Prize winners will have the option of opting for monetary voucher in lieu of Easter eggs if they choose.
